About This Program
The energy that takes more effort to access. The muscle that responds less readily. The mental edge that has softened. For many men, falling testosterone is part of the story, and a full assessment helps show whether it is part of yours. drive, professional, physical, sexual, that used to come naturally and now requires more. This is andropause, and it responds powerfully to the right precision strategy.
About This Program
Not quite. “Andropause” is an everyday word for the slow changes many men notice from their 40s on: lower sex drive, less energy, a shorter fuse, muscle that’s harder to hold on to. Testosterone does drift down with age, but slowly, more like a tide going out than a light switching off, and the same symptoms can come from sleep apnea, thyroid problems, weight, stress or medications.
So we don’t guess. Physicians call the medical condition testosterone deficiency, or hypogonadism, and diagnosing it takes two things: symptoms or signs, plus low testosterone confirmed on more than one early-morning, fasting blood test. In Canada, testosterone products are authorized for men whose bodies can’t make enough testosterone because of a medical condition, and Health Canada advises against using them for non-specific symptoms unless blood work confirms low testosterone and other causes have been ruled out. Age alone isn’t a reason to start.
That’s why care at Thrive! begins with a full assessment and comprehensive blood work. If testosterone therapy turns out to be a fit, your physician walks you through the benefits, the risks and how it’s monitored.
The Science
Testosterone
Energy, muscle mass, libido, mental clarity and metabolism; levels decline gradually from about the mid-thirties
DHEA
Precursor hormone feeding testosterone production and supporting adrenal resilience
Cortisol
Dysregulates with chronic pressure and poor sleep, directly suppressing testosterone production
Thyroid
Affects metabolism, energy, weight and mental clarity, and is worth checking in men too
Estrogen
Men need estrogen in the right amount. Estrogen levels need to be monitored and kept in the appropriate range for men.
Why Choose This Program
For men with confirmed low testosterone, treatment is about more than symptoms, and it is always weighed against the risks.

Sex drive and erections: in men with confirmed low testosterone, treatment can modestly improve sexual desire and function

Bone: in men with low levels, treatment increases bone density, but a large 2024 analysis of the TRAVERSE trial found more fractures with testosterone, not fewer

Body composition: in men with low levels, treatment tends to increase lean mass and reduce fat mass

Heart and prostate: a large 2023 trial (TRAVERSE) in men with low testosterone and heart risk found no increase in major heart events or high-grade prostate cancer, but more atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm), acute kidney injury and blood clots in the lungs. Your heart, prostate and blood count are checked before and during treatment.
A Note on Higher-Risk Situations
For men with a personal or family history of prostate cancer, testosterone therapy requires a careful, individualized assessment. Our process includes a detailed history review, investigations including PSA and imaging where indicated, and shared care planning with a specialist when needed.
The Testing
Low testosterone is diagnosed from your symptoms plus two early-morning blood tests. The Personalized Hormone Profile™ adds another layer, showing how your body makes, processes and converts testosterone, so your care can be personalized.
If you've been told your testosterone is "on the low end of normal" but you still don't feel like yourself, a fuller assessment can help explain what is going on.

Got Questions?
A result inside the reference range tells us a value isn't abnormal, but it can't tell us everything about how you feel. In this program, we read your blood work alongside your symptoms, your history and, where helpful, the Personalized Hormone Profile™, which shows how your body makes and processes hormones. Together, these guide a plan built around you.
Testosterone therapy has benefits and risks, and they depend on your age, your health history and how it is used. Your heart health, prostate health and red blood cell response are assessed before treatment begins and monitored throughout.
This calls for a careful, individualized assessment. We review your personal and family history, order investigations where indicated and involve specialists when appropriate, so you can make a fully informed decision.
Timing varies from person to person. Treatment is started carefully and adjusted over several months, and your physician reviews your progress at each follow-up.
Thrive! is private-pay and does not bill OHIP. Before testing, we tell you which lab tests carry a fee, so you know the costs before you begin. Keep your receipts, since program costs may be eligible as a medical expense; your accountant can advise.
Training gives your body a strong foundation. If symptoms persist despite consistent exercise, an assessment can look at whether hormones are part of the picture, and your plan is built around your results and goals.
Andropause is an everyday word, not a medical diagnosis. Testosterone falls gradually with age, but low energy or low sex drive can have many causes. Physicians diagnose testosterone deficiency only when symptoms are matched by low testosterone on at least two early-morning, fasting blood tests, after other causes are checked. At Thrive!, that assessment and comprehensive blood work always come before any treatment discussion.
